About

Gregory John Carberry

IT support, cloud support and infrastructure-focused technologist based in Telford, UK. I’m building towards roles where practical troubleshooting, clear documentation and hands-on technical work matter. I combine structured learning with real projects across AWS, networking, Linux, security fundamentals and support-focused scenarios.

In a sentence

Turning learning, labs, and late-night debugging into practical cloud skills.

Professional Summary

I’m moving into IT with a practical, evidence-led approach: building real projects, documenting what I learn, and using certifications to structure my knowledge rather than replace hands-on work.

My background includes structured service desk training, AWS certification, a Level 4 cyber security course, and hands-on lab environments covering VLAN segmentation, Linux systems, Terraform, AWS deployments, monitoring and API troubleshooting. I build projects deliberately around realistic operational problems rather than toy examples.

I’m comfortable working through user-facing issues, infrastructure problems and configuration errors with a methodical approach: understand the context, test carefully, document the result, and avoid guessing when the evidence is not there yet.

This portfolio exists to demonstrate applied capability — not just certification knowledge.

Current Focus Areas

I’m deliberately steering my learning and projects around a few core themes:

Skills Snapshot

A high-level view of some of the technologies and domains I’ve spent time with. For a more detailed breakdown, including certifications and specific tools, see the dedicated Certifications & Skills page.

AWS Cloud (S3, CloudFront, Lambda, Route 53, Connect)
Python & Automation
Terraform & GitHub Actions
Linux & Bash
Networking Fundamentals (Cisco, LAN/WAN)
IT Support / Service Desk
ITSM & ISO/IEC 20000 Awareness
Security Foundations ((ISC)² CC, Cisco Cybersecurity)
Version Control (Git / GitHub)

How I Approach Work

I tend to approach problems methodically: understand the context, narrow down the likely causes, test small changes, and keep track of what I’ve tried. I’m comfortable saying “I don’t know yet” as long as it is followed by “here’s how I’m going to find out”.

I value clear documentation and reproducible setups — whether that’s through Terraform, shell scripts, or simply writing down the steps that worked. The goal is always the same: make it easier for the next person (or future me) to understand what’s going on.

I also enjoy constructive feedback. If a design, script, or configuration can be made cleaner or more robust, I’d rather know and improve it than ship something that “just about works”.

Learning & Certifications

Formal learning and certifications are a big part of how I structure my progress. Over the last few years I’ve completed multiple cloud, networking, cybersecurity, and service management courses and exams — including AWS, Cisco, (ISC)² and others.

I treat certifications as a starting point, not the final destination. The real value is in being able to translate that knowledge into working solutions, reliable support, and better technical judgement. That’s why this portfolio exists alongside my badges: it shows how I apply what I’ve learned.

If you’re interested in specific credentials, dates, and issuing bodies, you’ll find a dedicated Certifications & Skills page linked from the navigation, as well as a full record on my Credly and LinkedIn profiles.

Beyond the Bullet Points

I enjoy taking things apart — sometimes literally, sometimes just in my head — to understand how they work. That can mean cloud architectures, network setups, bits of hardware around the house, or the way a support process is structured.

I’m comfortable with a bit of dry humour and straight talking, but I take the work itself seriously. If there’s a customer waiting on a solution or a system that needs to stay up, that comes first.

Let’s Connect

If you’d like to talk about cloud projects, IT roles, or anything related to this portfolio, feel free to get in touch. I’m seeking an IT support or cloud-focused role where I can contribute immediately while continuing to deepen my infrastructure expertise.
